Annual Family Retreat
Registration for the 2009
CHASA Family Retreat has closed. Please check back in 2010 for
information on the next retreat.
We are very excited to announce that our
8th Annual Family Retreat
will be held on July 12 - July 15, 2009, near the beautiful
Tennessee River in Florence, Alabama.
The retreat is a casual gathering that
gives families of children who have hemiplegia a chance to talk with other
parents. It also provides a wonderful opportunity for the children
to meet other children who face similar challenges. Medical and
other healthcare professionals provide the latest information on the
activities of daily living, therapies, education issues, and other topics
of interest to families of children who have hemiplegic cerebral palsy.
The primary purpose of the retreat is to
allow a child who has hemiplegia to meet others who are
"just like me". Families join together in activities and
the social time allows them to ease into conversations about anything
related to their child's hemiplegia. The children, siblings included, look
forward to spending time each year with others who understand their
challenges.
Many families return, year after year,
allowing the children to make lifelong friends who "get it". One
child didn't want therapy because he was afraid that his arm would
"start working" and he wouldn't be able to attend the CHASA
family camp. That's how much this annual gathering means to these
children. (We assured him that he'd always be welcome).
