Annual Family Retreat

We are very excited to announce that our 7th Annual Family Retreat was held in July 16th - July 21st, 2006 at the YMCA of the Rockies, Estes Park, Colorado. Check this page for information on future retreats.

The retreat is a casual gathering that gives families of children who have hemiplegia a chance to talk with other parents.  It also provides a wonderful opportunity for the children to meet other children who face similar challenges.

Families of children who have hemiplegia or stroke meet once a year for a week long camp. The primary purpose of the camp is to allow a child  who has  hemiplegia to meet others who are "just like me".  Families join together in activities and the social time allows them to ease into conversations about anything related to their child's hemiplegia. The children, siblings included, look forward to spending time each year with others who understand their challenges.  Many families return, year after year, allowing the children to make lifelong friends who "get it". One child didn't want therapy because he was afraid that his arm would "start working" and he wouldn't be able to attend the CHASA family camp.  That's how much this annual gathering means to these children. (We assured him that he'd always be welcome).
