Disability Sports: Events/Competitions
The
National Sports Festival for the Disabled is a national competition
for athletes and sports enthusiasts who have physical disabilities. The
United States Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association hosts the games.
America’s
Athletes with Disabilities, Victory Games
The
Challenge Games is an athletic competition in track/field and boccia
for persons with physical disabilities. The Games are held annually in
Kansas for junior and adult athlete, and are sanctioned by the United
States Cerebral Palsy Athletic Association and Wheelchair Sports USA.
The Chisholm
Challenge for Special Riders New in 2004, the Fort Worth Stock Show
has established a riding event for children and adults with
disabilities. Several north Texas area therapeutic riding centers
enter riders in this event which takes place just prior to the opening of
the Stock Show in January.
Recreation for Children with Special Needs
The Boggy Creek Gang Camp is a
permanent, year-round center where young people, ages 7-17, with chronic
or life-threatening medical conditions can have a safe, yet exciting camp
experience at no charge to them or their families. The camp is located in
Cassia, Florida, which is 40 miles west of Orlando.
Boundless
Playgrounds works with communities around the country to develop fully
integrated, universally accessible playgrounds.
