How
does CHASA use your donations?
For the past five years, 92.31 percent of
donations to CHASA were used to fund programs which benefited families of
children who have hemiplegia. The remaining 7.69 percent of donations was
used for administrative expenses. Source: Sanford, Baumeister &
Frazier, P.C.
Your donations are help families of
children who have hemiplegia. Some of the projects sponsored by CHASA are:
-
Research
Awards: Awards presented to institutions or organizations on behalf
of a principal investigator in support of pilot studies in infant or
childhood stroke/hemiplegia research. 2006
CHASA Research Award
-
Website: Over 300 pages of
information are provided to assist parents and children. This website is
written, developed, and created by volunteer and founder, Nancy Atwood. Jackie Haley, another volunteer mom, assists with editing and writing.
-
Family Retreat and
Conference: This gathering of families of children who have
hemiplegia provides an opportunity for attendees to visit with experts to learn
about the most current information on medical, therapeutic, and educational
issues. There is also the opportunity for parents and children to meet and
visit with other families who have been affected by hemiplegia. This
importance of this popular event can be summed up by the words of an eight year
old girl who has hemiplegia, "I know that I'm not alone. There are other
kids just like me." Your donations underwrite some of the expenses of
this event and also provide scholarships for families.
-
College
and Trade School Scholarships:
These scholarships are available for students who have hemiplegia.
-
Special Family Events:
Local groups of parents may apply for funding of a special event. An
example of such an event is the "Florida Family Fun Day". Children
with hemiplegia and their families enjoyed a day of games and fun.
-
Information: Your
donations help fund a phone line where parents and professionals can call for
more information about support resources. CHASA phone: 817-492-4325
-
Staff: CHASA does not
have a paid staff. We operate through the generosity of volunteers who donate
hundreds of hours of service.
