2012 CHASA Family Retreat

Save the dates!

Sunday, July 15 – Wednesday, July 18, 2012 – CHASA Family Retreat

Friday, July 13 – Saturday, July 14, 2012 – CHASA Families of Teens and Young Adults Pre-Retreat Party

The Children’s Hemiplegia and Stroke Association (CHASA) 11th Annual Family Retreat will be held in July, in Arlington, Texas, the center of the exciting Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas Metroplex.

The CHASA Family Retreat is a casual gathering that gives families of children who have hemiplegia, hemiparesis, or hemiplegic cerebral palsy a chance to talk with other parents.  It also provides a wonderful opportunity for individuals with hemiplegia – young and old – to meet others who face similar challenges.

Attendees learn that they’re not the only one wearing a brace, going to therapy, or taking seizure medications. Families join together in activities and the social time allows parents to ease into conversations about anything related to their child’s condition. The children, siblings included, look forward to spending time each year with others who understand their challenges.  Teens and adults who’ve had hemiplegia since childhood  enjoy hanging out together and often stay connected throughout the year.

The 2012 retreat will provide loads of opportunity for fun - a kid-friendly pool, movie on the lawn, games for the kids, SWAPS exchange, play date time for younger kids, Blue Bunny ice cream, teen/young adult meeting space, and also some down time to hang out and just be a kid with others who understand what you’re going through.  Parents will have time to exchange ideas and support in a relaxing atmosphere.  Back by popular demand is the “speed meeting” idea exchange designed to allow parents of younger children to meet and talk with parents of older children, teens, and young adults who have hemiplegia. New to 2012 is a fun-packed two-day pre-retreat event for families of teens (ages 13 and up) and adults who’ve had hemiplegia since infancy or childhood.
